Candle Care

These candles won't self care themselves, that's why we include a candle care card with every order!

When lighting your wick for the first time, make sure it is centered as that will help ensure an even burn. It should take 2-4 hours for your first burn. If your candle doesn’t achieve a full melt pool on the first burn it will catch up during a 2nd burn. This will ensure you get an even burn each time you re-light your candle.

Never burn a candle for longer than 4 hours at a time. After 4 hours, let your candle cool, trim the wick and relight.

Prior to every burn of your candle, trim the wick to at least ¼ inch. This prevents uneven burning, dripping or flaring. Don’t forget to straighten the wick! Wicks tend to pull to one side over the other which can create an uneven burn

Avoid drafts, vents or air currents. This will help prevent rapid or uneven burning, sooting, and excessive dripping.

Don’t burn a candle all the way down. For safety measures, stop burning a candle when there is ¼ inch of wax left in the vessel.

Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Before re-lighting, let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts.

Keep the lid on your candle, in-between burns, to prevent dust from settling on your candle.

What to do if your candle starts tunneling

If the candle is barely tunneling, it might just fix itself if you give it enough time to burn. A well designed candle will eventually melt, or “clean” all the wax off the sides.  When your candle shows a minimal sign of tunneling, it’s worth just letting it burn for an extended period of time to see if it eventually burns.

The remedy?  Burn the candle for 3-4 hours at least twice. If this doesn't work place tinfoil around the edge and let it burn for a few hours

When you ended up with tunneling because you didn’t burn the candle long enough

  1. BEFORE lighting the candle again, trim the wick to remove any mushrooms down to a 1/4″ height.
  2. Cover the top of the candle with tinfoil (aluminum foil).
  3. Cut an opening on the top roughly 1″ wide, or small enough that tinfoil remains above the wax shelf.
  4. Carefully light the candle and allow it to burn for 3-4 hours.

Once the burn completes, the tunneling should be smaller than before. You may need to repeat this a few times to completely restore the candle.

Alternatively, you can melt the surface of the candle down with a heat gun to level out the top. This requires no tinfoil and works much faster. We recommend a heat gun and wick trimmers to all of our customers

Please use care and precautions when using candles. Burn at your own risk. It is recommended to place a lit candle on a heat resistant coaster/surface to prevent any possibility of heat damage. Blaze It Candle Co. assumes no responsibility for any damage that may occur due to misuse of candles, and candle burning as well as candles not properly cared for before and after burningÂ
